The “Apostle” Paul is a heretic in the eyes of “St” Justin Martyr (100-165 AD)
🧵:
In addition to Justin never uttering the name of Paul in any of his writings, nor quoting him verbatim even once, there is a peculiar passage in his esteemed “dialogue with Trypho” which leads us to believe that he thought of him as a false prophet.
In chapter 34 of the dialogue, Justin tells Trypho that Christians would never eat meat offered to idols even if they are tortured and killed in hopes of doing so.
Trypho replies to this by saying that there are many who call themselves “Christians” who eat meat offered to idols and say that it is harmless.
Paul is an example of such “Christians” since he says in 1 Corinthians 8 that it is within the rights of Christians to eat food offered to idols as it is harmless, on the condition that they do not do this in front of weak, ignorant Christians.
Justin answered Trypho by saying that these so-called “Christians” are not teaching the doctrines of Christ, but instead, those of the spirits of error.
