The current controversy with Yarvin's latest on graymirror comes down to "what do we mean by 'elite'?"
The funny thing about this for me is that reading MM made me realize why democracy in general doesn't work and that reason is quite similar to the implied issue here...
Democracy can't deliver its theoretical benefits of having good rulers because the ruled select them because the ability to win elections is (at best) entirely orthogonal to the ability to govern well.
Similar problem with the current "elite"...
The current elite have been subjected to a selective filter that not only is orthogonal to actual elite qualities but *actively selects against them*.
No society needs the contributions of Kamala Harris, Taylor Lorenz, Anthony Fauci, etc. to thrive.
The system selected each of those people *specifically because they were the worst people the system could find*.
Look at the current controversy around the president and what's his son's nickname for him is.
This is an elite that's under selective pressure to be detestable.
The more correct point is that "hobbits" can't rule.
This is right - but the reality is a healthy system - in addition to having an aristocracy that is hereditary by merit that isn't as shallow as "IQ floor + conformity" will find the best of those people and train them.
So the theoretical question here is which is worse - continuing with the current system and preserving our IQ floor + conformity + lack of integrity elite or muddling through with a new regime while men selected for character and brains muddle through learning how to govern?
The remaining objection is that the Amerikaners don't want to govern but they're beginning to learn differently - they're beginning to realize that if they don't govern they'll be governed by people who have a religious command to hate them and do them harm whenever possible.
