I feel like I've had this conversation on repeat recently:
Progressive friend: "Everything is broken."
Me: So why do Progressives want to fund it more?
Friend: Well, we need to reimagine the system.
Me: Which system? What would you do?
Friend: I leave that to the experts.

Another conversation coming up often:
Progressive friend: "The biggest issue in America today is bipartisanship & polarization"
Me: Really? How many Republican friends do you have?
Friend: 🦗🦗🦗

Another one coming up:
Progressive friend: "50% of our country is racist."
Me: Have you ever dated a Black man? Asian? What are your preferences set to on Hinge?
Friend: 🦗🦗🦗

Another one:
Progressive friend: "Working-class people XYZ."
Me: Really? Have you asked any working-class people about that? Do you have any working-class friends?

I love my friends, but recently I'm starting to see a level of group-think & hypocrisy that is so offputting I hardly know what to do.
I don't know what it's like on the other side. I don't have any "right-wing" friends... Would imagine there are similar conversations.

Oh, here is another recent one coming up:
Progressive friend: "Billionaires shouldn't exist."
Me: How so?
Friend: Nobody needs that much money.
Me: What are you proposing?
Friend: They should be taxed!
Me: How so? What should be taxed?
Friend: I leave that to the experts.

Another one:
Friend: "I feel like the world is falling apart."
Me: Really? Do you think it's worse now than in the past?
Friend: What do you mean?
Me: Like in the Holocaust? Great depression?
Friend: Well, I guess maybe not. But it seems like it will be soon.

*Note - I've had each of these conversations about half a dozen times.
Almost all my friends love to talk about politics and I am deeply appreciative of that. About 90% of my friends lean left. I'm a moderate. Just wanted to clarify.

P.S. I've received feedback recently that I'm too hard on Progressives and I need to be more balanced.
To share my thinking - I believe Progressives are splitting the Democrat vote - which will result in a red wave that may last a long time.
I have concerns about that.

You could argue that the same thing is happening on the right - with the MAGA crowd splitting from the never-Trumpers.
The middle is a lot bigger than most realize (latest stats say ~44% of Americans are Independent).
In inflationary times, I believe they will lean right.
