[THREAD] The academy of Manchester United consistently produces highly-rated young footballers. Today, I’m going to show you its finest gem in the 2007 generation: Shea Lacey. 💎 1/8
Style of play Basically, Shea possesses a nice amount of pace and is capable of playing in the attacking-midfield/right-wing. Recently, he has been more of a right-winger with a role of an inside forward, likes to cut-in with his strong left-foot and either score/create. 2/8
Pressing As you can see in the heat-map above, you won’t really see him in his own half in most of the time. But, he does show an impressive ability against the ball, especially after being dispossessed. From what I’ve seen, this ability of him is not really talked about. 3/8
Creativity At first glance, it’s quite easy to understand that he’s also an attacking-midfielder, thanks to his scanning. Usually, he delivers line-breaking and long passes that lead to a significant advantage in the attack. It would be great if he keeps working on it. 4/8
Technique Well, Shea is what “technically gifted” is all about. Unavoidably, people like his unpredictable play, including highly-regarded dribbling skills, feints, and quick feet. As such, he shoots precisely from distance, crosses, and is also a set-pieces specialist. 5/8
Off-the-ball movement Personally, I would divide it into 2 parts: 1. Runs - timing well his runs without the ball in order to have the ball in dangerous areas. 2. Positioning - moving cleverly inside the box in order to be available to receive the ball and try to score. 6/8
So, what are his weaknesses? Of course, there are many things to improve, but the significant two are very common to his age: 1. Decisions - sometimes he’s overambitious with his dribbling or picks a pass in the wrong time. 2. Physique - it’s quite easy to knock him off. 7/8
Conclusion Obviously, he’s hugely hyped, especially when he tears up defences in the pre-season with the U-18. Perhaps, he’s one of the most impressive players born in 2007 that I’ve seen so far, the others are Lamine Yamal and Willian Estêvão. All the best in the future!
