If I had to launch a new Twitter account from scratch...
Here are the first 10 things I'd do:
1. I'd write a one-sentence description for myself of why I was starting the account.
Like this:
"I'm starting this account to help X people get Y result which will help me get Z result."
Clarity of purpose is key to success.
2. I'd pick an account name and set up my profile.
Since I already have an account in my own name, I'd choose a name that clearly appeals to my target audience.
And is easy to spell.
In my bio, I'd mention that I'm the one behind the account.
3. I'd write a list of 30 common questions my target audience has.
And my answers to them.
Each one will become a tweet or thread I post in the first 30 days.
4. I'd write a tweet or thread explaining why I started the account, who it's for, and how it helps them.
I'd make this my pinned tweet.
5. I'd do a Twitter search for terms related to my topic.
When I found someone who posted something good, I'd follow them if they regularly tweet about that topic.
I'd reply to one of their tweets.
And I'd post a tweet recommending others follow them and explaining why.
6. I'd do a Google news search for articles related to my topic.
As I read the articles, I'd look for stats, stories, and interesting snippets I could turn into tweets.
I'd do the same with a YouTube search as well.
7. I'd email anyone I knew who was interested in the topic.
I'd tell them about my new account.
Invite them to check it out.
Ask them if they know anyone I should follow in the space.
And offer to retweet or share content they've created relevant to the topic.
8. I'd write a list of 40 One-Sentence Tips related to my topic.
Each one of those would become its own tweet.
If I had a blog, I'd publish it there as well.
9. I'd commit to replying to at least 5 tweets a day from different people in my niche.
Each reply would be designed to provide additional value to that person's audience.
10. I'd start a simple newsletter related to the topic.
For three reasons:
It will help me get an algorithm-proof connection to my new followers.
And I can use the newsletter to grow the new Twitter account.
It also gives me more credibility.
Would doing these 10 things guarantee my new Twitter account became successful?
No.
But, it would be a great place to start.
What would you add to this list?
