The Ultimate Tools of Stillness
A Meditation Thread.
Zazen.
The Ancient Japanese and Buddhist practice of being one with the present moment. Practicing it awakens you from the dream of life. Crashing the big illusion surrounding time, death, and life.
It means The Art of Sitting. It’s a meditative ritual.
There doesn’t seem to be much to it. But try it, near water, or in the forest. You will see after a few minutes you will become jittery, your mind racing. That’s the point!
You can’t sit still for even a few minutes. Build it up, shoot for 10, and then 20 minutes. And then maybe an hour. No need to focus on breathwork, this time, just sit, and be aware of everything around you, and inside you.
Don’t knock it, until you try it, been doing this one, only since this year, and it’s been a game changer for me, in terms of stillness, and quieting of the mind.
It gets mentioned in the book of the Samurai, Hagakure. And books by Thich Nhat Han. Its a common buddhist practice.
Sui-zen: Melting in the Moment
When I get obsessed with things I take it a notch further. Sui means “water”. So I combined Zazen + Sui = Sui-zen. Which is “just” Sitting in the Pool.
The practice is very purposeful tho.
1. Sauna/Steam Room, Heat Up
2.Cold Shower, Cool Down
3. Sui-zen, Get in The Pool
First you heat your body way up, and then cool it way down, once you dip in the pool, you’re in the perfect temperature, just in between, like Goldilocks, just right.
Honest to God, do this, and you’ll feel like melting butter. You melt in the f water.
And your mind calms the f down. So serene, so smooth, yet so relaxing, and so energizing.
Lesson: Your mind is like an Infinity pool. Zero ripples. Ripples are your thoughts.
Thoughts are disturbances. Be still.
