1. Great thread. And it is almost impossible for modern secularists to grasp that one of the central teachings that made the church so appealing in its infancy was its sexual morality, it’s clear boundaries around sex.
2. What did the early say to the newly converted gentile believers: “You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols [ie offered to demons], from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.”
3. Food and sex were integral to pagan practice, and so breaking from those patterns were part of the process of separating themselves from society and living under the freedom of the gospel.
4. This is tied up in the vision of the mission of the early church (it was not “church growth”) as Paul understood the task given him by Christ himself on the road to Damascus.
5. “I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”
6. Integral to this vision of liberation from bondage to Satan was the gentile embrace of sexual morality. This is not just an undermining of western culture, but of the identity of the church itself. This is why the sexual revolution is so important to the left.
7. The left wants to undermine the church, and its influence. What better way to do this than with sex and sexuality. This is why they will never let up and why Christians must gently remain firm. The left is willing to sell society into bondage to satan to defeat the church.
