In any biz, your #1 goal is to persuade users to buy from you.
Here are the 6 principles of persuasion (+ how to use them):
(mini ๐Ÿงต)
1. Scarcity
The perception that items are more attractive when their availability is limited.
As a result, users fear missing out and are more likely to buy.
Example: 'Hurry! Only X products remaining."
2. Liking
We like people that are similar to us, who pay us compliments, and make us feel special.
Example: Use collaborative words such as 'us,' 'we,' and 'our' to make users feel a sense of belonging.
3. Authority
People like to follow advice/recommendations of credible experts.
Example: Gordon Ramsey endorsing HexClad ๐Ÿ‘‡
4. Social Proof
People feel safer using something that they know lots of others recommend.
Strength in numbers.
Example: Customer reviews or UGC.
5. Reciprocity
When people receive a free gift from someone they feel obliged to repay that favour.
Works best if it is a perceived exclusive gift that they feel is not offered to others.
Example: Offering users free access to your community.
6. Commitment & Consistency
People like to be seen as being consistent with their decisions and beliefs.
Example: Send a post-purchase survey to customers + ask if they'd buy from you again.
If they reply 'yes', they're less likely to go back on their word.
