They say "Adopt storytelling. Adopt storytelling."
But never show you how to go about it.
Use these 4 tips to incorporate storytelling into all your writings.
They’ll work even if you know nothing about telling stories.
1. Create a character
Depending on the context of your story, your character can be your business, your team, a legend from the past, or your customers.
2. Speak in the language of your audience
I know the regular advice is to write in simple vocab. But sometimes using jargon helps you create a mutual understanding with your target reader.
What am I saying?
If your ideal customer persona is familiar with some technical words, use them.
And come to think of it, would you rather speak in simple English and attract everyone…
Or
Infuse your ICP’s slang/ jargon into your copy/content and get them instead?
3. Paint images in their minds
One thing I learnt as a creative writer is the power of imagery.
Images come in handy in storytelling marketing.
It’s like placing a screen in front of your target audience. So when you mention a thing, they see it for themselves.
A pro-tip when creating imagery is to use the show, don’t just tell technique.
4. Transition smoothly
Your story isn’t the focus of your copy or content.
Your story is more or less the hook you’re using to attract your reader to the main deal.
But before you get to that main deal, you have to transition smoothly.
A good transition is without hitches. It’s one that raises no eyebrows or questions.
And it flows naturally from your story to the main focus of your article or copy.
Now, here’s a quick example of these four tips in play culled from an article on WriterZen’s blog:
