There's a HUGE site in my niche that uses dates in their URLs. πŸ€”
This site is DR60+ and has 10,000+ articles.
Here's how I'm using their poor URL choices against them...
πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
- Open ahrefs (or your tool of choice)
- Look up the top pages
- Filter URLs that Contain '201'
This brings me a list of pages that were written in 2019 and earlier.
Bingo!
I'm adding those keywords to my list.
Why?
Well, I don't actually have to outrank the big site to win the click.
If their post, 'Yellow Hotels In London' has 2015 in the URL and the date field beneath the title...
I'll call mine 'Yellow Hotels In London (2022)' and win the click.
Try this next time you find a site that uses dates in their URLs.
