Shaykh 'Abd Al Qādir Al Jīlānī was a respected figure who was well-known for his piety and excellence in character.

Shaykh 'Abd Al Qādir Al Jīlānī said:
"O you who complain to the creation for your needs, what benefit has your complaint to the creation gotten you? The creation cannot benefit you nor can they harm you.
"O you who complain to the creation for your needs, what benefit has your complaint to the creation gotten you? The creation cannot benefit you nor can they harm you.
O you ignorant who invokes the world [for your needs], due to your absolute ignorance, you seek [what you want from] the world from other than its Lord!"

Shaykh 'Abd Al Qādir Al Jīlānī also said:
"Do not ask the creation for anything for they are in need just like you and they to do not have the power to harm nor benefit themselves or anyone else."

As we can see from the Shaykh's statements, it is very clear that he was not someone who did or encouraged Istighātha. Instead, we see him strictly forbidding and warning others from it. It is clear he is free from those Qubūrīs who attribute themselves to him and his Ťarīqah.
