I built many projects as a developer. I made $0.
Then I learned marketing.
Now I own a $350k+ a year SaaS business.
Here is how you can do the same if you're a developer ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡
You won't make much money if you're a developer and don't know marketing.
Especially if you don't have any co-founders who know marketing
And trust me. Being a developer who knows marketing is a superpower.
Here is what you can do to start learning
This is the process I'd rush if I were only a developer.
1) Learning the concept of MVP
MVP = Minimum Viable Product.
It's a way of building products that everyone should use.
Learn everything you can about it
2) Learning the framework AARRR
This framework is magical. It's everything you need to build a successful SaaS Business
Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Revenue, Referral.
This is like the perfect wheel.
3) Read the book "Learn Startup"
It's a continuation of the MVP.
You'll get a clearer vision of how you should work to get a successful SaaS.
4) Read the book "Zero to Sold" by @arvidkahl
I wish this book had existed years ago. Arvid shares with us how he built his SaaS and sold it.
And he teaches you how you can do the same. The steps explained in this book are extremely powerful
5) Pick a niche you want to help
To be a successful SaaS founder you need to know your market.
Don't start a SaaS in something you don't know.
Pick a niche and spend time learning everything about them.
โ€ข How they talk
โ€ข What are their pain point
6) Read the book "The Unfair Advantages"
And you will understand why some people are successful and some are not with their SaaS.
You'll see things you didn't see before and you'll be able to use this in your own business.
7) Read Dotcom Secrets and Expert Secrets
They are not books created for SaaS founders but all the principles that you'll learn can be used in SaaS
It's the icing on the cake. Understanding the psychology behind marketing
8) Start doing
That's the most important. Everything you'll learn above is useless if you don't start doing it.
And remember: Done is better than perfect.
