🚀 Productivity 101 Micro Course - 7/7
Living your best life requires planning, dedication, and reflection.
You CAN achieve balance and do it all.
If you are failing it's because you don't have the right system in place.
These 6 systems will get you there.
A mega-thread:
What you are going to learn:
1. How to set the RIGHT goals
2. How to get brutally realistic about your capacity
3. How to create space for the work
4. How to get the work done
5. How to track your data
6. How to reflect backwards so you can plan forward
Let's get started
1/ Goal Setting
We all have goals. Yet:
- 90% of people don't take time to plan
- 9% of people have a plan, but don't execute consistently
- 1% of people achieve their goals like clockwork
It's time for you to join the 1%.
2/ Obligations Audit
Saying Yes to your Goals means saying No to many other things.
The problem is that you've already said Yes. A LOT.
You DON'T have as much free time as you think.
Time to bring these to light, make a plan, and get realistic.
3/ Time Blocking 101
Time blocking is the #1 productivity tool.
Master this and 3x your productivity by:
- Single tasking
- Doing deep work
- Being proactive
But it can seem confusing and complicated.
Here is a step by step tutorial on how to get started.
4/ Doing the Work
Setting goals lets you chart the course.
But all the planning in the world means nothing without action.
A major risk with productivity systems is that the system becomes the focus. It's not.
Doing the work is the focus.
Learn to Execute.
5/ Tracking the Work
Every good system has a strong positive feedback loop.
This reinforces and improves the desired behaviors.
Tracking your results gives you the quick feedback to keep the cycle of improvement spinning.
The data doesn't lie.
6/ Reflection
To see where you are you need to know where you've been.
Reflection lets you use the data to make adjustments.
Doing this often means you'll never get too far off track.
This is the fast feedback loop realized.
The system is super powerful but only works if you:
1. Plan for results
2. Get realistic
3. Schedule time
4. Do the work
5. Capture daily
6. Review periodically
Capture gives you the raw data.
Review synthesizes the data, allowing you to make informed decisions.
Using this system I've:
- Built a rock solid writing habit
- Moved from Ship's Captain to Senior business exec.
- Built strong relationships with my wife and kids
- Served my greater community
- Created space to relax
