The disciplined man...
// a thread 🧵
In one sentence Marcus Aurelius explained why discipline is so important...
“You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
Let's dig in...
Disciplined men don’t care about others’ opinions.
They aren’t people pleasers.
They’re goal chasers.
They get up at the same time every day - early.
If you leave your wake-up time to chance, you leave your whole day to chance.
They practice self-care.
Have you ever met a disciplined person who skips meals or doesn't exercise?
The little things turn into big things.
They have a plan.
Their day is planned, and their life is planned. Everything is intentional.
They’re lone wolves.
They’re not afraid to be alone.
They’re comfortable with the fact that their path isn’t the crowded one.
They know themselves.
How can you conquer yourself every day if you don’t know what you’re up against?
You have to face your weaknesses before you can become strong.
They read.
They just do. And they probably meditate, too. If your mind isn’t strong, you won’t be.
Read these 3 books immediately.
1. Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins
2. Mindset by Carol Dweck
3. 12 Rules For Life by Jordan Peterson
They’re patient.
They don’t panic if they don’t see results in two weeks, they aren’t caught up in instant gratification, and they aren’t phased when they screw up.
They don’t believe in motivation.
Some days you’ll wake up and motivation isn’t going to be there. But discipline will be.
Don't try to master everything at once. Pick ONE thing to work on.
Work in 10-day sprints.
Start by getting up 15 minutes earlier for 10 days. Then stack that with getting to bed earlier so you can get 7-8 hours of sleep.
Use the extra time in the morning to read and meditate.
You've got this!
