#Rajput: The illegitimate offspring of the Brahman
Not too long ago, Rajus admitted their Brahminical provenance with pride. Many Raju clans of today are the progeny of Brahmins through various means including Niyog. 1st on our list, we have the Kalchuri Raju king 1/n
from the 18th century, Rajsingh of Chhattisgarh who forced his wife, to have Niyog with a Brahmin which successfully resulted in the birth of a son named Bisnathsingh. The author of the snippet above notes, "This (Niyog) was an old custom especially among the Rajputs..." 2/n
Next, we have the Bandhalgoti clan of Rajus, who now pretend to be an offshoot of the Kachhwahas, but were traditionally regarded as the progeny of a Brahmin named "Chuchu" Pande through his Dalit Dhakar kept woman. Many of the customs of the @Bandhalgoti clan can be traced...3/n
back to the practices of their Dalit maternal clan. You can hardly blame a @Bandhalgoti like @TheRaajanyaa for fabricating legends of more honourable origins given their Brahmin ancestor was called "Chuchu" Pande. If my ancestor had a name like that, even I would refuse to...4/n
..to associate with him.
Next, we have the Kanhpuria Rajus, who, unlike the Bandhalgotis, have no qualms in admitting their descent from the varnasankar son of a Brahmin through the daughter of the Gaharwar king Manik Chand. There's another, an even lesser honourable tale...5/n
of origin of Kanhpuria Rajus that we shall discuss some other day.
Like the Kanhpurias, the Gautam Rajus had no qualms in admitting their Brahmin origins either, through a descendant of Sringi Rishi who married the daughter of a Gaharwar king. 6/n
Now, as we have seen earlier, notwithstanding their current pretensions of descent from the Mallas of the Mahajanapad era, the Bisen Raju chiefs of Majhauli have very clearly admitted their origin from the Rajputani kept woman of a Brahmin ascetic named Mayur Bhatta. 7/n
However, recently I discovered that not only Bisens have admitted their descent from Brahmin Mayur Bhatta, but they also had a genealogy according to which the Bisen Raja of Majhauli in the 19th century was in the 115th generation from the Brahman Mayur Bhatta! @Fakhr_e_Hind 8/n
But according to Bisens like @Fakhr_e_Hind and @The_Bisen, even though it was the Bisens who claimed Brahmin origin by producing a genealogy tracing origins to Mayur Bhatt, here the Brahmins are at fault for hypnotising Bisens into believing they have Brahmin origins.9/n
Next, we have the Raju clan o Chaupat Khamb which is said to be descended from a "degenerate" couple involving a Brahmin man and a Rajputani woman. From the looks of it, this clan came into existence after the said Brahmin man illicitly impregnated the Rajputani. 10/n
The Brahmin was outcasted and his progeny became Rajus.
It must be noted that Brahmin men kept Rajput women as mistresses fairly often, but owing to the impurity of such affairs, the progeny was never admitted into the Brahmin fold, but was given the rank of Rajus. 11/n
Hence, famous British ethnologist Sir A.H. Bingely notes, "Thus from the illegitimate progeny of Brahmans sprang several of the Rajput tribes of such as the Kanhpuriya, @Bandhalgoti, and Chaupat Khamb" among others. n/n
PS: This is only a small sample of the Raju clans sired by Brahmins.
