I’ve traveled to 30+ countries all over the world
All while growing my one-man business to 6-figures
These are 20 habits to 10x your productivity while traveling
1) The No-Phone Morning
Starting your day browsing your phone is like eating cake for breakfast.
You prime your mind for distractions and to seek dopamine hits.
Ditch the phone and I promise you'll produce more, even if you travel.
2) The Morning Walk
Don't listen to podcasts or music.
Just walk.
Clear your mind and prepare yourself for the day ahead.
Bonus points if you get some morning sun or walk in some beautiful neighborhoods wherever you're staying.
3) The Daily Journal
Free up your mental capacity by putting your thoughts down on paper.
Brain dump and free write whatever you want. Let it flow so you can feel fresh right before you start working.
4) The Time Block
Work can be filled with distractions.
But not if you practice deep work and block them out.
1 hour of solid deep work can be more productive than a full day of multi-tasking and distractions.
Keep your time boundaries and you'll create more.
5) The Phone Placement
Studies show that the mere sight of your phone while working can throw you off.
Eliminate this.
Place it in another room.
Out of sight. Out of mind.
6) The WHY
Take a moment each day to remember why you're working, creating, and building.
Just a few minutes pondering on what motivates you will inspire you to keep focus and stay on track.
7) The Start Time
Start work each day at the same time.
Eventually, your mind will go into "work mode" right when the hour starts.
Your senses will heighten and your mind will be ready to produce.
8) The End Time
End work at the same time each day.
When the clock strikes that hour - that's it.
Close the laptop. Step away from it and your phone.
You'll train yourself to create the most during your phone work hours.
9) The Breaks
This is a given.
Take breaks every 45-60 minutes.
Stretch. Walk. Get bored.
Do whatever you need for a quick recharge so you can work hard at your next work hour.
10) The Boundaries
Review and check your boundaries.
Are your clients/coworkers respecting your time boundaries? Are they overloading you?
Take a second to make sure your time is YOUR TIME, and not anyone else's.
11) The Cool Down
Workday is done? Great.
Step outside and go for a walk.
Like an athlete after a hard gym session or game, you need to cool down.
Get some fresh air, sun, water, and even a healthy snack to wind down the day.
12) The Down Time
You're traveling.
Go enjoy yourself.
Have a nice meal of the local food. Go to a meetup. Hit up a bar to chat people up.
Remind yourself there's more to life than your work. Enjoy the lifestyle you've worked hard to create.
13) The Off Days
Since this thread is about productivity while traveling, you NEED off days.
Take a day trip. Hit the beach. Explore around town.
These "off days" where you don't think about work are super fun, and you'll come back refreshed and inspired.
14) The Reward
Did you do all you needed to do? Awesome. Reward yourself.
You'll trick your mind to finish your tasks and do well if you treat yourself at the end of the day.
Establish that positive link and you'll program your mind to produce more.
15) The "No" Answer
Learn to say "no" when you need to.
Most tasks are not productive, they're just busy work.
Acquire the skill of knowing what high-value tasks are and saying "no" to everything else.
16) The Call Days
This is for people, like me, who don't love calls.
Have a set day or two each week where you promise yourself NO CALLS.
This allows you to only focus on YOU and your main tasks, instead of checking the calendar for upcoming meetings.
(why I love Mondays)
17) The Non-Work Convos
Call up a loved one to chat for a few minutes.
Not only is the connection sweet, but you'll also get your mind off of work and just have fun.
Share a laugh, check in, and talk about other things.
Do this and you'll feel refreshed. (and loved)
18) The No Notifications Rule
While in your deep work, turn off all notifications on your laptop.
Those little pings and dings throw you off focus.
Keep it quiet so you can power through your tasks with no distractions.
19) The Energy Management
Feeling tired, depleted, or distracted?
Take a break. Listen to your mind and body.
If you absolutely need time off, take it.
It's better for you in the long run.
20) The Gratitude Moment
2-3x per day, take a moment to be grateful for your situation.
You're working and seeing the world at the same time - how cool is that?
Our ancestors couldn't fathom this life, and now you're living it.
Remember that and you'll work to keep it up.
