Advice from 30-year-old me to 20-year-old me,
7 things I wish I knew when I was 20:
I celebrated my 30th birthday this year.
I remember when the thought of being 30 scared the SHIT out of me.
Now that I'm there,
I've never been more excited about my life.
Here are 7 lessons that I wish I could go back and tell my 20 year old self:
1. Youโ€™re allowed to be happy now
I used to think happiness was a destination.
One I would reach when I had accomplished some arbitrary set of goals.
I understand now that itโ€™s a journey.
One that we embark on each and every day.
happy days --> happy months --> happy life
2. You donโ€™t have to have it all figured out
"Who am I?"
โ€œWhatโ€™s my purpose?โ€
โ€œAm I working the right job?โ€
These questions kept me up at night more times than I could count.
The reality is that NO ONE has life figured out.
Do your best, but don't be so damn hard on yourself.
3. What you do daily will determine who you become
Itโ€™s weird to think of a time when I WASNโ€™T aware of the power of daily habits.
Nearly everything in life compounds over time.
Whether those are positive habits, or negative ones.
Your habits shape your life, it's a fact.
4. Think about what youโ€™re grateful for every day
I firmly believe that this is the most powerful mindset shift we can make.
Happiness doesn't come from wanting and getting more,
that's a never ending cycle.
The key is to want exactly what you already have.
5. Age doesnโ€™t matter as much as you think
In my 20s, I somehow believed that life just ended at 30.
Now I feel like I'm just getting started.
Like my 20s were only a warmup for my 30s.
Starting early IS an advantage.
But never set limits on yourself because of your age.
6. Close relationships are key to a fulfilled life
Imagine you were the last person on Earth.
How much of what you do now would matter?
This is extreme, but for me, I was very caught up in my own world throughout my 20s.
I see now that the people in my life matter most.
7. Take care of your health as early as you can
Do I regret partying in my 20s?
Absolutely not.
Those memories were worth a few thousand brain cells.
However, I would emphasize:
- 8 hours of quality sleep
- Less processed foods
- Lifting 3X per week
- Skin care routine
That's a wrap!
