The problem is not iron tiself but when it's present in its free form because due to its ability to participate in redox reactions, iron is a catalyst for the formation of hydroxyl radicals from reduced forms of O2.
To put it as simply as we can : unbound iron is a "pro-oxidant", the opposite of an antioxidant and causes severe damage to mitochondria.
It also causes excessive bacterial overgrowth in the intestines and feeds pathogenic bacteria.
What can we do about this?

First of all, unless you have a health condition iβm not aware of, go donate blood.
Thatβs step 0.
Step 1 is to stop consuming iron fortified foods (avoid all grains) and stop consuming foods extremely high in iron for 1-3 months.

Step 2 is to get rid of any non single ingredient supplement and any omega 3 supplement.
(Will make full thread on this)

Step 3 is to get on a very small dose of a natural antibiotic such as oregano oil since antibiotics bind to iron preventing it being used by bacteria.
Do NOT over do it.
Ideally you want to consume 3-5 days per week for 2-3 weeks in total followed by 2-3 weeks of a probiotic/colostrum.
Step 4 is to eat 1 slice of pineapple a day.
That simple.

Step 5 is to combine red meat with some turmeric, black pepper and onions or garlic.
Since sulfur strongly binds to excess iron.
Step 6 is to get on thiamine, vitamin D3 with MK7 and ALA

Sure, get in the sun but since most people gave gut issues, they're vitamin D deficient and a couple of weeks of supplementation shouldn't hurt them (not medical advice btw, is this OK?)
The two factors which regulate iron homeostasis most are vitamin A and vitamin D.
You'll be getting the first one from liver (it's high in iron but the sulfur and turmeric will take care of this) and the second one from the sun and targeted supplementation.

When it comes to ALA and thiamine, they are some of the most powerful iron chelators that exist.
Step 6 is to have some seasonal fruit. Just not with red meat.
You want fruit since fructose lowers cortisol which can lead to excess iron accumulation.

And to not combine fruit with red meat since some fruit can be very high in vitamin C and vitamin C will increase the amount of iron that will be absorbed.
Vitamin C is important since it promotes the removal of iron through urine. Just don't combine it with foods rich in iron.

Step 7 is to adress any zinc deficiency, since zinc is the strongest promoter of iron excess.
The best test for this is to get some zinc picolinate ( i do not recommend supplementing zinc 9/10 times).
If after you supplement zinc, you break out in your face or back.

There's an iron excess.
Obviously stop taking zinc and ALA supplementation in this case is mandatory.
You might even need to get back off red meat for 1-4 months and only stick to 100-200grams of beef liver per week when it comes to red meat consumption.

These steps are simple and they work.
Try them.
