That tendency to honor the rituals of public school over rituals of one's ancestors
In the OTT series "Panchayat", the village Pradhan (a lady) is mocked for not knowing "जन गण मन"
That is deemed more "essential" than the religious songs of greater literary merit she might know
This obsession with symbols of the Indian state (nothing against them), be it tiranga/anthem, to the point of religious devotion towards them, is a uniquely Indian thing
There are tens of millions of Americans who have no idea about "The Star Spangled Banner". Nobody minds
I think this extraordinary interest in new symbols is indicative of a deeply deeply religious and ritualistic society losing faith in its ancestral ways
There is a thirst for ritual, structure. Yet an inferiority complex that despite "Dharma", we were subjugated and overtaken
Hence this tendency to replace the old ancestral habits with new found rituals
