A Bengali Hindu hailing from Chattogram comes to Kolkata just after his matriculation in 1948.. right 2 years after the Direct Action Day and Noakhali genocides. He came against the wishes of his family and extended family members.

His family members thought that they were "safe" and the Noakhali was one time incident unlikely to repeat. He struggled, got himself a job and called his entire family to Kolkata. He started everything from scratch (like every other Hindu refugee).

Seeing the constant brutal attacks on the Hindus of East Pakistan, the family by now realised that his son's decision to come to India was right. Had they not returned, their existence would've completely wiped out.

The family came via the jungle route at night, hiding themselves from the Islamists. They were "guided" by muslim dalas who ensured them safety and made money from their plight. One of the most horrifying part of the journey was of a Hindu infant.

The infant kept crying as the group moved together in the darkness of the night. After a couple of warning, the Dalal snatched the baby from the mother's arms and THREW him into the Padma river. The Hindu infant's voice was silenced forever. He never cried again.

The family reached Kolkata and settled there but the "উদ্বাস্তু"/ Udbastu (refugee) tag stayed for a long time. Even the third generation has to bear the tag in a humiliating manner.
