The crosstian in the tweet cited Titus 2:4 to show that "child marriage" was forbidden because the author referred to "young women" not "children" in regards to marriage. But this shows the stupidity of this person. "Young women" did not mean then what it means now. 2/5
The verse says nothing about age. What would be a "young woman" today might not be necessarily the case back then. The Greek word used in Titus 2:4 is νέας. The word is derived from νέος which simply means "young", "youthful" and even "recently born"! 3/5
But it gets worse. The same root word is used in the Septuagint, and could also mean a...drum roll, please...CHILD!! That is because the word in Greek simply means "young". A child is young just as a "young woman" is young. It does not tell us anything about age. 4/5
In fact, in 1 Corinthians 7:36, Paul referred to females who were "hyperakmos". This Greek word meant "beyond marriageable age", which scholars explain was beyond the age of puberty. So the "young women" in Titus 2:4 could include even girls as young as 12 years old! 1/5
