Building connections with your AD is all about:
- Your first impression
- Displaying value (TO THEM)
- Building the relationship
- Making the right choice

1. First impressions:
This applies everywhere in life, first impressions matter, especially in the watch world.
The second you walk in, they will judge you.
I first saw this watch in the window after getting my haircut, I was in sweats and a hoodie.

The second you walk in, they will judge you.
I first saw this watch in the window after getting my haircut, I was in sweats and a hoodie.
So the next day I dressed up a bit, and went back particularly to talk to them.
They will judge you in a split second, so make sure you dress the part.
Look like someone who would buy a Rolex.

2. Displaying Value:
Buying luxury watches is a value exchange. With good watches, they're literally selling money, so you need to think, what does the AD get out of this?
ADs are looking for people who are clearly interesting in watches, and want to build a collection.

They WANT long term repeat business.
But, they want it from people who aren't taking the watches and selling them the next day for a profit.
Knowing this, I started the interaction by saying that I wanted a watch to celebrate a recent business win.

This did two things, firstly, it was a way of telling them that I'm in business, and that I'm not a trust fund kid.
Secondly, it showed them that the watch will have sentimental value to me, and that I'm much less likely to sell it on.
Exactly what they're looking for.

3. Building the relationship:
This gets your foot in the door, but there's a lot more to be done.
Introduce yourself properly to the staff in the store, and as soon as you get a chance, write their names down in your notes so that you don't forget.

Introduce yourself properly to the staff in the store, and as soon as you get a chance, write their names down in your notes so that you don't forget.
This is key, people do business with people they like, and this will come in handy later along the line.
You need to qualify yourself.
My way of doing this was explaining that my friends have Rolex collections, and I spoke about which ones I had worn, and which were my favourites.
Where possible I spoke about my businesses, what I do, etc.

4. Making the right choice:
Want to murder ALL of your chances?
Walk in and ask for a Daytona or a Daydate.
The goal of your first watch isn't to get your favourite watch, it's to build the relationship
I started out trying on Datejusts, and we spent 90% of our time on those

After putting my name down on a Datejust, I started talking to them about how I think the Yachtmaster is an extremely underrated piece, and asked if I could try one on.
They pulled out the one that I ended up taking home.
(TBH I never liked everose, but it looks way better irl)

5. Your competition:
I'm going to be honest, I think one of the only reasons I got this so fast is due to lack of competition.
Think about it, in smaller cities, ADs will have less people who are able to buy expensive watches, BUT they still need to move watches.

It's supply and demand.
In major cities, there will be a lot of guys competing for few watches.
Those ADs don't need you.
In smaller cities, they'll be less picky because it's easier for you to stand out from the rest.
Sometimes it's good to be a big fish in a small pond.

I can go into a lot more detail and nuance, but to be honest with you, this is my first Rolex, and everything I've implemented, I learnt from the Watch Investor course by @GadzhiIman inside of the @croquetclubnft vault.

One good watch will make back the price of the pass, and you'll have two assets that paid for each other. ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
