This morning the Israeli military targeted and shut down Palestine’s leading human rights & civil society organisations.

1.@Alhaq_org is the oldest human rights organization in #Palestine. It has been documenting Israeli war crimes, collecting hard evidence, and working with the International Criminal Court to hold war criminals accountable.

2. @DCIPalestine documents the Israeli government’s crimes against children. It monitors how many children are held in Israeli prison, how many are murdered, and how many are injured and harmed by Israeli attacks. It then provides support to the children most in need.
3. @Addameer works with political prisoners. It documents the violations they face, from torture to arbitrary detention, and helps political prisoners with no access to lawyers get legal representation. Addameer supports prisoners on hunger strike by offering them legal support.
4. @BisanCenter leads the field in analysing the economy of Palestine, and how the occupation and PA corruption limit opportunities for a dignified life for Palestinians. It leads social justice reform campaigns.
5. The Union of Palestinian Women is a body focused on the political and social rights of women in Palestine. It provides legal and policy support related to protecting women’s rights, and documents abuses against women, as well as the impact of the occupation on their lives.
6. The Union of Agricultural Work Committees works with Palestinian farmers who come under attack by Israel’s land theft and settler expansion. It assists them in remaining steadfast and documents crimes committed against farmers and their lands.
The Israeli government is right in its assessment that these organizations are a threat to its regime of apartheid. Especially in an age of social media, these organizations have helped inform the world about Israel’s atrocious abuses, which mobilises global action.
Israel tried and failed to stop the funding to these organizations by telling their donors they were “terrorist” entities - but an EU investigation showed that Israel’s accusations were bogus and fabricated. Shutting down is the only step the Israeli gov had left in its pocket…
But Palestinians will not be silenced. We will persevere and continue our human rights work until our people live with dignity and freedom. If you’re reading this, you can help by spreading the truth, as the Israeli government is running smear campaign against these orgs…
It is central we maintain a narrative that upholds the truth, and mobilise the world to speak up against this Orwellian attack that is meant to muzzle Palestinian voices and delay justice/accountability for decades longer.
