This is something I’d look at for today’s game. The key will be isolating LIV’s right hand channel- Rashford has to start for that reason, for his directness and movement. Martial needed to provide balance and hold the ball up. Martinez more protected aerially at LCB in a 3.
Martinez will also have more freedom to use his progressive strengths as a wide centre back. Out of possession I’d look at a 5-4-1, just like Palace did. Will have to suffer at times in this game- there’s no easy solution but this is what I’d pick if I was in charge.
For me Rashford has to play up against TAA. Exploiting LIV’s right side is one of our only chances to get joy in this game. Zaha did it really well against them- we must target that area and you need movement in behind the LIV line.
