Statistics for Machine Learning ๐Ÿ“Š
Understanding the two broad types:
๐Ÿ”˜ Descriptive
๐Ÿ”˜ Inferential
๐Ÿงต ๐Ÿ‘‡
Statistics:
The science of collecting, organising, analysing & presenting the data.
Broadly classified as ๐Ÿ‘‡
1๏ธโƒฃ Descriptive
2๏ธโƒฃ Inferential
1๏ธโƒฃ Descriptive Statistics:
Describe the features of populations/samples.
Present data in a purely factual way.
Present final results visually (tables/charts/graphs)
Draw conclusions based on known data.
Use measures of central tendency, distribution & variance.
2๏ธโƒฃ Inferential Statistics:
Helps us to Estimate & predict future outcomes.
Final results in the form of probabilities.
Draw conclusions that go beyond the available data.
Use techniques like hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, regression, correlation analysis etc
Although, presented here in a binary way, descriptive and inferential stats are often used in tandem.
Together they setup the foundation on which data analytics is built.
That's all for today!
