🚨 Set-Pieces Analysis 🚨
Aston Villa used a very interesting idea against Westham to take the lead from a well planned corner routine, let's dig into it
Westham defended with 6 players zonal marking ( Black ), while the blue ones were man markers except Fornals, who had a double role, supporting his mates against their markers and to be ready to initiate the counter.
Aston Villa tried to manipulate the first line of this scheme by putting 3 players behind the zonal line and overloading Hammers' man-markers.
- McGinn made a run to drag Johnson out to free the 1st contact area.
- D. Luiz moved towards Scamacca to pick him, and this made their Brazilian free to win the 1st contact.
- Konsa ran at the back post and tapped in Fabianski's rebound.
- Watkins, Chambers & Ings stayed in their position to pin their markers.
- but the goal ruled out, the ball bends out of play before Konsa finds the back of the net
