I cannot describe to you how big a deal this was if you weren't there.

The story revolves around a Pokenon named "Mewtwo" that has powerful psychic abilities.
The story is that a scientist named Dr. Fuji was hired by the evil Team Rocket to create Mewtwo so that Team Rocket could use Mewtwo as a living weapon.

In a scene like something from greek mythology, As is turned to stone by the attacks.
And, as @jordanbpeterson would point out, the idea of sacrifice for a greater good is front and center here.

As the Pokemon Ash see his sacrifice, they begin to cry out of sorrow and thankfulness for his selfless sacrifice, and their tears are able to heal and revive Ash.
The symbolism here is stunning considering this is a kids movie.

Remember that Mewtwo's entire strugfle was with his identity. His major struggle was with the fact that he was born with no family, and he had no purpose other than the desire of someone else to make him a weapon, and he keeps asking "who am I?"

Ash's sacrifice he is changed and he says:
"Not until they set aside their differences did I see the true power they all shared deep inside. I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are"

The film portrayed a beautiful image of sacrificing oneself to save the future of others, and weaved that idea together with the idea that who you are is about the choices you make and actions you take.
And they did it in a children's movie that would make sense for Kids...

They also tied in the idea of redemption, and the idea that hearts can be changed through the sacrifice of another.
Every kid who watches this can get the lesson. Just try to teach those lessons to a 9 year old.
You can't.

That line Mewtwo uses: "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are" is a beautiful rebuke of identity politics that say that the race and culture you were born into define who you are...

That is POWERFUL, and you can't get that from being told it's true...you habe to see it in a STORY so that you can FEEL it's impact.
This is a generation that thinks with it's feelings and it's heart, and listens with it's eyes.
They need to SEE these lessons to get them...

If you want to reach people you need to start using example like this one to communicate your ideas, and you need to start making art and stories with stuff like this built into it.
