The first pokemon movie came out during the height of the first Pokemon craze.
I cannot describe to you how big a deal this was if you weren't there.
The first Pokemon movie is a perfect example of how movies and stories, even ones for kids, transmit values and ideas.

As he matures and wakes up Mewtwo learns he was genetically engineered from the DNA of another Pokemon called "Mew."
Mewtwo realizes he has no real mother, no father, no family, and exists for no purpose other than to be used as a weapon.
This next part is very important

In a scene like something from greek mythology, As is turned to stone by the attacks.
And, as @jordanbpeterson would point out, the idea of sacrifice for a greater good is front and center here.

As the Pokemon Ash see his sacrifice, they begin to cry out of sorrow and thankfulness for his selfless sacrifice, and their tears are able to heal and revive Ash.
The symbolism here is stunning considering this is a kids movie.
Now, we finally hit the most important part

The film portrayed a beautiful image of sacrificing oneself to save the future of others, and weaved that idea together with the idea that who you are is about the choices you make and actions you take.
And they did it in a children's movie that would make sense for Kids...

That is POWERFUL, and you can't get that from being told it's true...you habe to see it in a STORY so that you can FEEL it's impact.
