People from outside may not understand that Ukraine is not fighting for its statehood and independence but its existence. If Russia won, there would be no Ukrainian language, culture, education or self-governance. There will be nothing like Quebec or Wallonia
It's not about an administrative or political system. Russians are already burning books, exterminating language and introducing forced re-education in the occupied territories. It's genocide with a goal to have no Ukrainian nation. This is precisely their reason for this war.
But we do fight for our independence and political system too. Because, you know, it's better to live in a democracy than a dictatorship. We want our freedom of the press and freedom of assembly, free elections, and no prosecution for religious minorities, NGOs or LGBTQ.
But even without all these reasons: a democracy, not a dictatorship; the right of the ethnic group to exist; Ukraine still must win and have a divine right to defend itself. Because Ukraine is a sovereign independent state, and Russia has no justified reason to invade it
We basically have our divine right to decide by ourselves how we would live, and the neighbouring country has no right to dictate what we should do. It's that simple. That's it.
Why should you support Ukraine? Because people are dying, nature is burning, the economy is sickening. The war must be stopped to end this. The aggressor must be punished. Otherwise, any country on Earth will learn that it could do anything without punishment. It means more wars.
