من مفاد كلام شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية أن من أصول البدع: جعل العفو سيئة والسيئة كفرا.
ومعنى ذلك أن المبتدع يرفع مسائل الاجتهاد إلى درجة مسائل العقوبات والأصول، فيعقد عليها الولاء والبراء، ويضلل من لم يتبعه في رأيه ذلك. فمن كان هذا موقفه فله شبه بطائفتين: الخوارج وأصحاب الطرق الصوفية.
