Byzantine History has unlimited & untapped potential for media adaptation. A TV Show on Byzantine History would easily outshine something like Game of Thrones on plot, intrigue, β€œworld-building,” character development, etc.
Imagine the opening scene of the TV Show: Komnenos. The Varangians assemble on the deserted streets of Constantinople to defend the Emperor. A stand-off is resolved by the Emperor walking through the shield wall & to the rebel who accepts their surrender. Camera pans: Alexios.
Another: the Venetian Fleet enters the Golden Horn. Action-packed movie of the desperate defense & eventual fall of the City. It could even serve as a backdrop for competing Crusader & Byzantine factions as they race to secure Holy Relics in Constantinople.
The travails of Belisarius: The Last Roman could capture the attention of any audience as the brilliant general fights against all odds in his doomed task of returning Rome to her former glory.
I could go on, but the more one learns about Byzantine History the more surprising it is that it remains an almost untapped topic for creative exploration.
What do you think? Will we see more Byzantine or Byzantine-inspired media in the future?
