Worth remembering the vicious abuse that @ProfEmilyOster & others who made this argument were subjected to.
Then think about other debates like that.
You're not hearing from a lot of people on some topics because they don't want to deal with it.
The result is worse outcomes.
That is not to say that the side that is viciously abusing the other side is always wrong. People were not particularly polite about anti-vaaxers & anti-vaaxers were mostly wrong.
It is to say that we'll get better outcomes through open discussion & debate, not suppression.
With someone like @ProfEmilyOster who probably shares your values, cares about people & children, & is analytically informed, try to listen to what they're saying instead of shouting them down. They might be wrong but worth engaging.
True of many people on many issues.
I would also encourage more people to speak up. I know more people were concerned about children & learning loss than expressed it. Ditto on other issues. It can be hard but share your expertise & views, even or perhaps especially when contrary to your team's narrative.
P.S. I'm not asking for your sympathy for @ProfEmilyOster who has a terrific job and platforms--she has hardly been "cancelled." Ditto for me.
I'm more worried about the people you aren't hearing from--and the consequences of not hearing from them.
