For years, Ukrainian scholars & pundits explained why it's inappropriate to talk about the Ukraine/Ukrainian crisis instead of Russian aggression against /invasion of Ukraine. We argued that the prevalent name obscures Russia's agency and thus responsibility while creating 1/
the false impression that it is Ukraine that is to blame, or at least that it is only about Ukraine, not Russia. Hence it is so frustrating to see that Russia's current large-scale war against Ukraine is so often called "the Ukraine war". Again, it appears to be about Ukraine 2/
but not Russia. I don't know if people using this name do not understand its implication or do not care about it. I can only say that it's damaging and hurtful, so people supporting Ukraine should by no means use it or accept its use by others as normal. 3/3
