Cold Email Masterclass
(Everything I learned while generating over $30 million in sales via cold email)
A) Sections of cold email
1) Subject line
This is the only part that everyone sees.
We optimize it first to increase everything.
Try different subject lines like:
- Question question
- {title}?
- {service} for {company}
Stick with the one that works for your niche.
2) First line
First lines make the email:
- Look personal
- Avoid spam
- Stand out
The best first line is a compliment.
To find the compliment we go through their website, LinkedIn, and Google news.
3) One sentence case study
Case studies allow the client to trust you.
Show them a case study in their industry and the results you generated.
Here’s how we structure the case study:
“Recently we helped {type of business} that {problem}, and we {solution}.”
4) The close
Close with a strong CTA.
Get them to the next step, which is a meeting.
Here’s what we do:
“Now, I’d love to do the same for you.
Are you around this week for a call?”
5) Email signature
- Name
- Title
- Name of agency
- Address
- Phone number
This makes you look like a real person.
Yet, only a few people do this.
Here are 2 sample cold email scripts:
Usually, I only share them inside my course Email10K Ultimate.
But you can have them for free.
(Inside the course you get 8 more scripts)
C) Finding the right niche
To find the right niche:
- Write the initial email
- Customize it per niche
- Write custom first lines
- Send 50 for each niche
- Repeat
Choose the one where you get the highest response.
If no one says yes, change your service and offer.
D) Follow up
Most big companies ignore your 1st email because they don’t know you.
They’re more likely to respond if you send an email a couple of days later.
Some prospects are even waiting for you to follow up, just to make sure you’re serious.
For example:
Joseph (one of our clients) got a job, 6 months after the initial email.
Luckily, you don’t even have to follow up manually.
Softwares like Mailshake do it automatically for you.
To make a good follow-up email:
- Super short or more information
- A solid call to action
- Add excitement to push the deal forward
Following up 3-4 times is more than enough
Email 1: Quick bump
Email 2: New case study
Email 3: Break up email
Every email is a reply to the previous email.
Send them 4-5 days after the previous email.
Here’s an example for each:
E) Benchmarks
Cold email is all about the data.
The data we look for:
- Open rate
- Bounce rate
- Response rate
- Click rate
- Meeting book rate
Let’s look at the benchmarks and how you can improve them.
1) Open rate
Should be over 60%.
At our agency X27, we get an 80% open rate.
If lower:
- Rewrite the subject line
- Send 100 more
- Switch the niche
Here are some more tips on improving the open rate:
2) Bounce rate
Should be under 10%.
This is tied to the quality of your lead.
If over 10%:
- Hire better lead generators
- Check your email verification process
3) Response rate
Should be over 25%.
This is directly tied to the body of the email.
If under 25%, we look at:
- Is there a solid CTA?
- Are you explaining the value properly?
- Did you send the email with typos?
4) Click rate
Should be 0%.
We have found that if they click, the response rate goes down…
Even if it’s a link to the portfolio.
We want meetings, not clicks.
If over 0%, remove all links.
5) Meeting book rate
Should be over 6%.
You have to track this manually.
If lower, improve:
- Follow up process
- Other benchmarks
Remember, it takes time for this to show results.
PS: Cold email is the secret weapon that has helped us generate millions in sales
