"Etidorhpa, or, The End of Earth; The Strange History of a Mysterious Being; The account of a remarkable journey"
John Uri Lloyd, first edition, 1895.
A journey to the earth's hollow core, conveniently reached, as of course you'd expect, via a cave in Kentucky.🙄 1/
Etidorhpa is a trippy occult-tinged allegory by (not coincidentally) a pharmacognosist and pharmaceutical manufacturer of Cincinnati, Ohio. The first printing of Etidorhpa was distributed privately; eventually it went through 18 editions and was translated into 7 languages. 2/
Etidorhpa literary clubs were founded in the United States, and some parents named their infant daughters Etidorhpa. The book purports to be a manuscript dictated by a strange being named I-Am-The-Man to a man named Llewyllyn Drury. 3/
Drury's adventure culminates in a trek through a cave in Kentucky into the core of the earth. Ideas presented in Etidorhpa include practical alchemy, secret Masonic orders, the Hollow Earth theory and the concept of transcending the physical realm. #shrooms 4/
