In 1948, a 13 y/o Jewish boy:
• Hands death sentences to friends
• Fakes his name to escape Nazis
• Survives on restaurant leftovers
How he escapes death to build an $8.6B business:
George Schwartz was born into a Jewish family in Hungary
In 1948, the familly finds out that Hitler is moving into Hungary to kill the Jews
George's father fakes a non-Jewish name for his family and they become the Soros
They hope the Nazis won’t catch on
One day, the Nazis give 13-year-old George a "deportation notice" to hand to his community
Without knowing it, he now holds in his hands, the names of his friends and neighbors who are sentenced to die
George hands the paper to his father
He immediately sends George and his family across the country to escape the gas chambers
His father stays back to warn his Jewish community
After hiding in fear for 12 months, the Soros receive news...
...the Nazis have left the country
400,000 Jews were killed in Hungary that year
George and his family are some of the few who survived
His friends and family were mentally destroyed
But not George.
Until...
Two Russian soldiers find his mother, Elizabeth, walking outside
They immediately throw her to the street.
And rape her.
Her rape emotionally breaks George and sets him on a new path
He shuts down, leaves his family, and flees the country
It's now 1948, and 17-year-old George arrives in London
Penniless.
He survives by waiting tables at a night-club
But he can't make enough money and finds himself scraping leftovers off used plates
After months of scraping half-eaten food, he gets his big break
He’s accepted to the London School of Economics
Still in trauma from the holocaust and his mother’s rape,
He distracts himself in his studies and graduates a top student
Needing to make money quick — he thinks he can make quick money in NYC Finance
But George struggles to keep a job since wants to do things his own way
He realizes: if he wants to be successful he has to build his own business
He decides to take the biggest risk of his life
He convinces his friends to give him some money to invest
He risks his reputation and all his savings to start his own fund.
Turns out?
He was right.
His fund grew over 3,000% in 10 years
George went from escaping Nazi gas chambers and scraping leftovers off used plates...
...to building an $8.6B business.
Here's how:
1) Bet on yourself. There's no better investment
2) Knowledge is the only thing stopping you. If you can't do something, learn
That's a wrap!
