Recently, so many argued about the morality of lolicon. No, it's not about legality anymore. For them, someone looking childlike is immoral regardless of age. They're likely westerner who doesn't understand Asian beauty standard, so I'll dedicate this thread for them.
Asian beauty standard is strongly emphasizing on youth and femininity, which is why our ladies strive to have a smooth and fair skin, slender body, and nobody want to looks old. Because of this, it's totally normal (and even the commonly accepted norm) that girls should be cute.
However, even without any of these, Asian still tend to looks much younger than Caucasian due to genetic, bone structure and many more factors. Because of this, it's far easier for us to achieve anime aesthetic for cosplaying. Which mean, "moe" anime appeal suits ourselves.
For westerner, anime characters tend to looks way too young, way too cute, because that's how they viewed real life Asians too. Even our adults tend to be shorter and smaller than them, looking more smooth, youthful and adorable. So it's pretty normal for adults to be childlike.
In the west, girls being childlike is either weird or cringe, because we have different norms. In here, girls embrace traditional feminine beauty of being cute, pretty and adorable. That's normal here, not something abnormal or questionable. We can consider this a culture shock.
There are stories of adults being mistaken as a teen or even child here, and it's not due to malnutrition or deformity. We're just naturally more cute, so we have lots of petite ladies. They're not insecure about this, because society do not judge them, and instead praise them.
This is why there's less "moral panic" over cute anime girls here, because to begin with, we love cute girls AND have cute girls in real life. Meanwhile the west debate the morality of cute anime girls, because for them, this is all something so unnatural, and it weirded them.
Westerner often make fun of "adult loli" because they thought that their old age is just a joke, but in reality, many Asian adults do have such adorable, youthful petite body and with smooth skin. Here, an example from my homeland of Indonesia: Leanna Leonardo, 25 years old.

Leanna is a prime example that someone could be an adult with a job and in relationship, but still get called a loli because they looks cute, youthful and with smooth skin. No one here make fuss of it, because why should anyone get cancelled for being a really cute girl?
So when westerner wonder, why anime got so many cute girls? Because that's how we are. Fiction doesn't need to be realistic, but it does shaped by our standards. For us Asians, it's normal for girls to be so cute, without anyone freaking out when someone dating a cute adult.
In summary, the moral panic against cute anime girl (including loli) is mostly just culture shock, because we have different beauty standard. In here it's totally normal for girls to be cute and youthful. What they seen as questionable, is just part of our life.
Another reason is because westerner is obsessed with being righteous, and it gets worse ever since the rise of cancel culture. They called everything racist and sexist, phobic and fascist, everything become problematic for sensitive snowflakes, and Asians often become the victim.
Honestly, most of these can be avoided if people can stop blaming and judging others so much. The woke often hurt the innocent, and that they try to cancel peoples for fiction too, which is totally ridiculous.
