1. Thank you @cogitoiam for brilliant thread.
British allowed sacerdotal Hindu monarchies to exist albeit in disempowered state. As they existed, they could do great service to Hinduism during British rule. But for them Hindu dharma would not have survived even this long. ++
2. Had there been no Raja of Ramnad, the world would not have known Swami Vivekananda.
Had there been no Maharajas of Travancore, Mysore & Baroda, there would not have been Raja Ravi Varma.
You can cite lakhs of instances of great Dharmik work of Hindu Rajas & Maharajas. ++
3. Post-Independence Patel merged all 530+ Hindu monarchies with Secular India. Thereby, did Patel do good or bad for Hinduism?
With the end of Hindu monarchies, institutional patronage to Hinduism & Hindu Temples, Mutts, learning, arts, culture, literature etc too vanished ++
4. A religion requires a State for survival.
If Religion (Dharma) is आत्मा (soul), State is शरीर (body). A religion without body is प्रेत (ghost).
Hinduism is the only religion without a State. And Hindus are well known for self-stabbing.
Can Hinduism survive?
