Cheat Code to Becoming a Better Speaker [THREAD]
I run a daily email list for my ArmaniTalks brand.
And one time, an email subscriber asked me how I have the energy to do daily emails.
Doesn't it get tiring to think of new things to write about every day? he asked.
In all fairness, that is a viable concern.
And my response was, no, it does not get tiring.
Heck, it energizes me.
But you have to understand the WHY so you can internalize the thought process.
I don't only write because I want to become a better writer.
I write daily emails because I want to become a better speaker.
The two are connected like Yin & Yang.
Writing skills improve speaking skills & speaking skills improve writing skills.
Cheat code status.
The reason for this is because writing allows you to slow down your thoughts.
You can discover your voice & build a foundational understanding of what you stand for.
When you have developed a voice, then you are more ready to take the stage.
'What if I am nervous?'
That's fine.
The nerves will melt away. In terms of public speaking, speech anxiety isn't that big in the grand scheme of things. It is just chapter 1.
But you want to know what is important?
'What?'
Your enthusiasm towards your topics.
Write so you can find out which topics generates genuine enthusiasm within you.
Enthusiasm is the electricity in your speech. Without it, you are just saying a bunch of empty words to your audience.
But with it?
You hold their attention in the palm of your hands.
Since writing every day for years, I can talk about soft skills with ease.
The core soft skills my brand covers are public speaking, social skills, storytelling, emotional intelligence, creativity and level up mentality.
And as I talk about these topics, I can connect the dots with other topics to think of new speech ideas.
My challenge to you is to write every day for 5-10 minutes. I recommend starting a Twitter page or a blog to hold yourself accountable.
Have the correct mindset for your writing.
You are not writing to pass time.
You are writing to:
Discover your voice.
Sharpen your speech.
Understand what you stand for.
Go from consumer -> producer mode.
After doing this habit every day for a few months, you are going to feel less fog minded.
The less fog minded you feel, the sharper your mindset becomes.
A sharp mindset leads to clarified actions.
On AND off the stage.
