What is Metadata? Definition and examples🧵👇
Metadata defined:
Metadata is the data about the content or identities of a message, action, or transaction.
Examples👇
Metadata is the data about the content or identities of a message, action, or transaction.
Examples👇
Example 1: Facebook doesn’t know who User82 (they signed up with a fake email). However, when User82’s location is matched with his friend john’s location on Friday night, then User82 must be in John’s social circle, and investigating John’s data will lead to more info on User82.
Example 2: Anna signed up for Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat using different emails and names but she has all 3 apps downloaded on the same phone. So, it is known that all 3 accounts belong to the same person.
Everyone should think about and take the steps to limit the metadata collected about them. Most are revealing much more than they realize🔎
