1 million followers in 30 days.
How did Brendan Kane do it?
He attributes his success to the 6 principles of virality:
Brendan calls a literary agent and asks:
"If I get 1 million followers in 30 days, would you get me a publishing deal?"
The agent says yes.
And after achieving what seemed impossible, Brendan gets the deal.
But how did he do it?
After years of working for:
- MTV
- Taylor Swift
- Paramount Pictures
Brandon realized that social media was all about 1 thing:
βž” How long you can hold people's attention.
So he created, what he called, the communication algorithm.
Which is basically a storytelling mechanism.
Pixar trains their writers in this model.
Bill Clinton used it to become president.
NASA uses it in its training program.
And it's based on the 6 different ways people perceive content:
1/ Feeling-based
30% of the population is feeling-based.
These people will only connect with your content depending on how you make them feel.
If your content doesn't create an emotional response...
You're ignoring almost 1/3 of your audience.
2/ Fact-based
The second largest is fact-based.
This is 25% of the population.
These people want timeframes, data, and facts.
They want your content to make sense to them.
3/ Fun-based
In third place, we have fun-based with 20%.
These people want one thing:
βž” Entertainment.
If after 3 seconds they realize your content isn't exciting or stimulating...
They'll skip it.
4/ Values-based
This is 10%.
They want to feel like they can trust you.
So you need to give them opinionated content.
Content that shows your values, and that you're committed to them.
5/ Imagination-based
This is also 10%.
These people are reflective.
They want you to play with their imagination.
To get them to explore new ideas.
6/ Action-based
Believe it or not...
Only 5% are action-based.
These just want to get things done.
Show them exactly what to do...
And they'll come back for more.
Now how do you apply that to your content?
First, become aware of how YOU perceive content.
Chances are that this is also how you communicate.
Then figure out how to incorporate the other 5 ways into your content.
Here's an example of a pitch for a Real Estate company:
