"I believe in you, and the One who revealed you."
This phrase, allegedly by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is frequently used by non-Muslims to argue that Islam teaches the Torah is preserved.
Did Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, really say that?
Bismillah

David Wood didn't quote the full Hadith (Sunan Abi Dawud 4449), so let me fill you in:
A group of Jews came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, to ask him what to do with 2 among them who committed fornication.
2/11
Next, according to Sunan Abi Dawud 4449, the Prophet, peace be upon him, told them to bring the Torah and then he put it on a pillow and said "I believed in thee and in Him Who revealed thee."
He, peace be upon him, then showed them that stoning is in their own book.

There're multiple issues with Sunan Abi Dawud 4449
4/11
Issue #1:
The Hadith is WEAK. It contains 2 weak narrators:
1- Hesham bin Sa'ad al-Qurashi
2- Ahmad bin Sa'eed al-Hamdani
1- al-Qurashi has been weakened by many scholars such as: Ibn Hibban, Abu Hatem al-Razi, al-Nasā'ī, Ibn Hanbal, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, among others.
5/11
2- al-Hamdani has also been weakend by scholars, and some even said he's a liar. For example:
- Ahmad Ibn Hanbal: "He messed up the Hadith of Kufa."
- al-Jawzi said: "He was accused."
- al-Daraqutni: "He used to compile Munkar Hadith and he wasn't strong in Deen.

Issue #2:
The addition "I believed in thee and in Him Who revealed thee" is can NOT be found in authentic versions of the same incident.
Authentic versions:
1- Sunan Abu Dawud 4431 (Sahih)
2- Saheeh Al Bukhari 6841
3- Saheeh Al Bukhari 3635
4- Saheeh Muslim 1699b
7/11
"I believed in thee and in Him Who revealed thee." can ONLY be found in Sunan Abu Dawud 4449, which is unreliable as shown above.
What do you expect from Xian Islamophobes who believe in a book written by anonymous authors?
Ibn Hazm said "It's a lie and a fabrication.

Since they don't care about reliability of reports, then the Prophet, peace be upon him, is reported to have said:
"The children of Israel wrote a book, so they followed it, and left the Torah."
Some have authenticated this report.
9/11
Ibn Masoud (Sahabi) said the same thing about the Children of Israel inventing a book in an authentic report.
10/11
Ibn Abbas (Sahabi) said that the Quran teaches that the Jews and Christians changed their books and attributed their inventions to Allah.
11/11
Ibn Hazm said that none of the Sahaba opposed the opinion that Jews and Christians changed their books.
