Sometimes last year, a guy posted his new Camry big Daddy on twitter & he captioned it like,
“I know say e small but I say make i buy this one hold body first before I go get big money to buy Benz”
I smiled.
You know why? The yardstick is so tampered. Status-symbol hustling.

That was how someone asked his old friend,
“Oh boy, heard you finally moved to Lagos from Ondo, I’m so happy for your growth man.. where you dey for Lagos na?”
HIM: “Omo no be island like una o, na that ikotun side I still dey manage jare but I go get there too like you Baba”

He had to go indirectly defensive first, explained unnecessarily about his progress because deep within, his blessing feels inadequate unlike that of the man asking.
Same reason you see people belittle their blessing of a partner.

The toxic urge to minimize so people can false-maximize your blessing for you before you feel validated is fast becoming a disease these days.
I understand many cruise with it but it’s a deep rooted battle of “it’s not societally good enough” that many are masking with cruise.

MANY NIGERIANS DON’T APPRECIATE THEIR BLESSING JUST BECAUSE IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE THIER NEIGBOR’S BLESSING.
There’s a process-blessing, absorb it, share it confidently if you must & be graceful in gratitude while working towards your destination which is your mental blessing.

They keep belittling their growth because the external validation is the huge chunk of what makes today’s blessing a blessing to many.
So they try so hard to appease external validation by presenting their winnings as unworthy just because of the level they think strangers are.

Hey you, if you must celebrate, celebrate your winnings with your chest. That’s your fvcking sweat & journey.
Don’t get sucked in comparison that you become ungrateful to the kindness the universe is showing your process.
