Left-wing activists in India have been under the illusion that Islamists are on their side when it came to women's rights.
Kavita Krishnan got a reality check today after she came out in support of the anti-hijab protests in Iran (over the death of #MahsaAmini).

The bone of contention was this social media post! Kavita had hailed the Iranian women, who took off their hijabs in protest over the brutal torture and death of Mahsa Amini. (2/n)
Kavita got slammed by a Sharia enthusiast who made it clear that Islamic laws cannot be compromised in pursuit of women's rights.
"Hijab is more important for women than gold ornaments or Kohinoor diamond" ~ Shadab Chauhan.

A rattled Kavita Krishnan then invoked ‘Hindu supremacy’ to reinstate her secular credentials after having run the risk of being viewed as anti-Islam.

Shadab then warned her against interfering in the religious affairs of Islam.
“...Muslim women never leave Hijab and I challenge you Kavita Krishnan that u can’t interfere in our Sharia,” he taught her in a lesson in feminism.

After co-opting Islamists for years in her fight for women’s rights, Kavita Krishnan was slammed by one of her own.
Having drawn their ire, the left-wing activist quickly tried to undo the damage. (6/n)
She proceeded to compare the brutal torture of Mahsa Amini, caused due to her choice of not wearing a hijab, to the opposition by Hindu groups to selectively entertaining Muslim religious attire in government schools. (7/n)
The Karnataka High Court had held that Hijab is not an essential practice in Islam and that uniform is a reasonable restriction on the Right to Religion.
This did not bar Muslim women from exercising their choice of attire on the streets or in public places. (8/n)
No State government stopped Muslim women from wearing or removing their hijab in public, unlike Iran.
Given that LW activists rely on Islamists to amplify their messages, they need to use the ‘Hindu supremacy troupe’ from time to time to keep them on their side. (9/n)
False equivalence and bizarre comparisons between apples and oranges are the only way out when they run the risk of upsetting their core followers while championing women’s rights. (10/n)
