Total Cost, Admission, and Visa Processing in Austria🇦🇹 (Part 1)
As promised, I will explain, step-by-step, what it takes to get Admission and successfully migrate to Austria.
RT and Tag your friends while you digest this info, page by page.
Let's gođź”˝:
The first thing you MUST do is what is called 'Legalization'.
In our context of study, legalization is the process of making a document authentic or proving that such a document isn't illegal.
Why is it important? Most universities in Europe
especially countries in the Schengen area, demand you present this before they initiate the process of visa appointment.
Now, let's dig into Austria.
1.Austria is located in Central Europe with a population of about 8.95 Million people.
Their official language is German. Although German is the official language, to some extent below average speak English.
The unemployment rate as of 2021 is about 6.3%. If you are targeting Austria for next year, the best time to start is NOW.
What can you do now? Your authentication at the Ministry of Foreign affairs and ministry of education.
2.What are you authenticating?: Your WAEC, NECO, BSC certificate, English proficiency letter, and Transcripts (For MSc).
For BSc, go with your WAEC, and NECO (Kindly ask your prospective school for more information, in case they need more from you as a prospective BSc student). After this, next is the process of legalization at the embassy.
Take these documents you authenticated together with the
following: birth certificate (NPC birth certificate if born after 14/12/1992 till date, or NPC attestation of birth (if born before 15/12/1992).
Point to note: Don’t submit so many unnecessary documents, such as the first school leaving certificate, declaration of state of
origin, etc.
Documents like these are not necessary and will slow down your verification process with the embassy. If possible, contact the embassy to be sure of all you need per stage.
Kindly note: legalization must hold in the country where you obtained your certificates.
3.Once you are through with this, you should have admission by now or you are yet to apply (I will still explain how to get Admission). But I will advise you do all of these while waiting for portals to open. This will really save you a lot of time.
Once your admission letter is out, book an appointment for verification and legalization with the embassy. Book here appointment.bmeia.gv.at .
Your appointment dates fall only on Mondays and Wednesdays.
This might take a while. (I will advise you to apply to schools on time so that your admission will be out on time).
4.Once you have gotten a date, the embassy will give you the details, so no worries. take all your documents, your completely filled questionnaire, police report
, authenticated and legalized documents to the embassy for verification and legalization. According to the website: (bmeia.gv.at ),
Applications can only be accepted when
•the questionnaire is filled in correctly and completely (please fill in all blanks or mark as n/a);
•the questionnaire is duly signed by the applicant (not by an intermediary);
•all documents and the questionnaire are submitted in the original and one legible copy;
•all documents are legalized by the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
•a copy of the data page of the passport of the applicant is submitted;
•the correct amount of the verification fee in cash in naira is submitted;
•for intermediaries: the authorization letter of the applicant is submitted in original together with a copy of the data page of the applicant and an ID of the intermediary.
Only applications fulfilling the above criteria are accepted at the counter. Other applicants have to book a new appointment.
Kindly follow the instructions and always contact the embassy if you are not clear at any stage. It's better
you get the steps right than lose the verification period after securing a date.
5.Deposit the sum of 200,000 thousand naira for the verification process. Visit the website if you wish to move with your family for a more financial break down of this process:
(bmeia.gv.at ).
The Embassy strongly advises forwarding all requested documents at once in order to prevent further expenses.
Police character certificate can be submitted without legalizing it at the ministry of foreign affairs.
6.Legalization steps: According to the embassy, In order to legalize foreign documents, you need to show the correct certifications of the respective ministries (e.g: school documents need to be stamped by the Ministry of Education)
as well as a legalization notation of the Foreign Ministry of the country of origin of the document.
Please make sure that your documents bear those necessary endorsements prior to the submission of documents for verification.
Only documents bearing the legalization notation of the Foreign Ministry can be legalized by the Austrian Embassy.
• Legalization fee: € 80.00/ document payable in cash in Naira at the current monthly exchange rate (according to Law on Consular Fees (TP 4 (1) KGG 1992 IGF).
The payment may be done in person or by an intermediary. The verification takes at least 8 to 12 weeks or more.
Once they are through, they will contact you with further information on what next you need to provide in order to book your visa appointment.
Once they reach out to you, kindly confirm with them what documents you need to translate, whatever they tell you, scan all the documents they mentioned and forward them to a translator. (You can email abuja-ka@bmeia.gv.at and ask them to help you with a translator).
While waiting for your translated copies, schedule a resident permit appointment.
You can start gathering the following at this stage:
.............................................
I will complete this in part 2 and explain how to get Admission.
See you in Part 2.
