PSA from a neuropsychologist:
ANYthing that impacts the gut, WILL impact the brain.
ANYthing that impacts the brain, WILL impact the gut.
Gut + Brain have a constant bidirectional conversation!
Stress has a very real impact on our gut!
Research indicates that stress-induced changes in the physiological functions of the gut include changes in:
gut motility, mucosal permeability, visceral sensitivity, gastric secretion, and the gut microbiota.
Stress influences the physiology
of the gut.
In other words, psychological factors can impact upon physical factors, like the movement and contractions of the GI tract, causing inflammation, pain, and other bowel symptoms.
This often significantly reduces quality of life.
Just as stress impacts the gut, what we physically ingest impacts our BRAIN!
This just means the more we can heed an anti-inflammatory (high in good fats, whole grain, lower in sugar, lower in caffeine)
the more we create a neural environment ready for thriving.
This doesn’t mean that dieting and restricting is needed. It’s not.
It just means anti-inflammatory and in moderation πŸ™
