Men, here's how to work from home without losing your edge.
I've been working from home for over 10 years and here's what I've learned to keep myself from shriveling up into an anti-social goblin.
1. Leave the house at least once per day.
You've got to get out of the house. This is the most important.
Go for a walk. Go to the gym. Preferably a scheduled session where you need to be there at a set time, so you can mark it on your calendar.
2. Eat lunch with someone at least 2 times per month.
Keep your relationships fresh and active.
Eat with people from your previous job.
Eat with people from events or your gym.
Eat lunch with people from church or other dads you've meant during your kids' soccer games.
3. Interview for another position at least once per year.
Doesn't matter if you are looking to change companies or not. This gives you an excuse to update your resume, practice your interviewing skills, and meet new people.
Plus, you can stay up to date on how much you're worth
4. Find ways to do public speaking a few times per year.
It could be a local meetup or networking group.
It could be teaching a Bible class at your church.
People need to see your face, and Zoom doesn't count.
5. Always be learning.
Cultivate your curiosity.
Prevent your mind from remaining in well-worn ruts.
Learn things perpendicular to what you do at work.
Learn to draw. Write poetry. Take up gardening. Learn to build a table. Play an instrument.
And don't forget, always let your kids interrupt you.
