Once the family unit falls apart, so does the spirit of the young man affected by it, especially if they grow up to resent their motherly and fatherly figures by their inability and dysfunction. Many hardly transcend it, for it is in many ways unacceptable.
Sadly, these men know better, and that is why they are resentful, they looked for something better, but they don't really know what 'better' looks like, which is why they still end up leading degrading lives and adopting the vices of their parents.
The impairments that brought about their resentment are fostered within themselves. And, becoming an image of what they begrudged, they are overflowing with self-loathing, impoverished self-esteem, terrible unease, you name it, it's a slow catastrophe.
The first and foremost catastrophe was the disintegration of the family, but the later catastrophe is measured and more brutal for the children, because it forces them to own up to injury they didn't deserve, and must pay its consequences indefinitely.
