The Vedic basis of chanting names of Bhagavān Śrīdharācārya in his commentary on Bhāgavatapurāṇa 6.2.8 cites mantras from the Ṛgveda, which speak of chanting the names of Bhagavān. +
Similarly, Lakṣmīdhara in his Bhagavannāmakaumudī cites Veda mantras which speak of the same. Hence, chanting the names of Bhagavān is a Vedic practice and should be done with the same reverence as toward other Vedic rituals.
