@Tom_Rowsell @HahnDen It isn't very hard to say at all, it's the consensus right now and has been for a while ever since aDNA exploded. The earliest Scythian kurgans are near Kakasthan and Mongolia, the earliest royal Scythian burials are 45% East Asian at the minimum.
@Tom_Rowsell @HahnDen It is almost certain Scythians arose in the easternmost fringes of the Kazakh Steppes in Asia. The earliest kurgans are Arzhan 0, Arzhan 1 and Zevalinko-Chilitka. We have aDNA from all those sites and they're the closest to Bashkirs and Tatars.
@Tom_Rowsell @HahnDen Aldy Bel is from the 8th century BCE, Tasmola is 7th century BCE. Zevalinko is 9th century BCE.
The Scythian package first shows up around the 900s BCE: horse harness, weapons and animal style art. These are the kurgans where this is found.
@Tom_Rowsell @HahnDen Accordingly, Tuscone et al say this:
"We do not find support for a western Pontic-Caspian steppe origin, which is, in fact, highly questioned by more recent historical archeological work. The Kazakh Steppe origin hypothesis finds instead a better correspondence with our results"
