Here are 5 writing tips I learned from studying his work:
1/ Being Specific > Being Original
"Original ideas are the end result of being more specific."
The goal is to keep fine-tuning your ideas until it becomes "different."
That's what will make your ideas original over time.
2/ Write for ONE
To make your message resonate with your audience...
You need to be 100% clear on who you’re writing for.
And here's where specificity is critical once again.
3/ Writing = Answering Questions
Everything you write is answering a question for the reader.
The bigger the question, the bigger the audience you will attract.
Your job is to figure out what question to answer.
4/ Share Your Core Narratives
Core Narratives are 3-5 stories you share to:
- Give context of who you are
- Add credibility to your writing
And you should repeat them often.
The better they know you, the more likely they'll talk about you to their friends.
5/ Clear > Clever
Clever leads to confusion.
And confusion is the writer's #1 enemy.
So when writing your headlines, clearly state:
- Who this is for
- What's in it for them
